KSR After Show 3/25/16

On today’s Good Friday addition of Kentucky Sports Radio the guys are doing the show live from Memorial Coliseum on UK’s campus. They will have serveral guests including Maci Morris from the Lady UK Hoops team, her Coach Matthew Mitchell, and Swaggy Cal could be making an appearence as well. So settle in and get ready for a great KSR and we’ll discuss it all here!

Remember to CALL or TEXT the KSR After Show @ 775-583-7483 and leave us your voicemails and text messages and we will post them to the website for all of BBN to enjoy!

LONDON, ENGLAND - NOVEMBER 15: Empty seats are seen in the stands during the international friendly match between England and Sweden at Wembley Stadium on November 15, 2011 in London, England. (Photo by Julian Finney/Getty Images)

Matt watched the NCAA Tournament games last night at the YUM Center.

He gets mad and hates that the YUM Center is so much better than Rupp. Although scalpers where selling tickets at half price and the arena was almost half empty, because Kentucky isn’t playing there. The YUM Center seats 22,000 and Matt says there where probably only 12,000 people there, and 1/4th of them where Kentucky and Louisville fans.

Matt got the stink eye from the UofL suite.

So in true Matt fashion, he walked by as many times as possible.

Duke lost last night so the tournament is a little more enjoyable.

It still stinks that the Cats are not playing this weekend of course, but seeing Duke go down is the next best thing!

Coach K scolded Dillon Brooks of Oregon in the handshake line for, as time was running out in their game, taking a really REALLY deep three at the end that just happened to go in.

When asked about the incident during the post game press conference, coach K lied about it and said that he did not tell Brooks that he is a better player than that to show boat and shoot a three like he did. It was obvious from the video that a conversation like what was confirmed by Dillon Brooks was going on. You could clearly see Brooks apologizing to coach K. While this is a coach K thing to do, it is not his place to tell an opposing player anything like he did. It’s such a “I’m the greatest of all time and can do whatever I want” action and just makes me hate Duke even more and lose some respect for coach K for doing it, and lying about it afterwards.

Grayson Allen is a whiney butt, and Coach K is a snotface lying little goober.

Maci Morris joins Matt and Ryan on the show.

  • She’s a mountain girl from Bell County.
  • She feels the pressure of the NCAA Tournament but is excited and loves playing with the other girls.
  • Bell County where Maci is from and Middlesboro where Matt is from are rivals.
  • Bell County is completely behind Maci.
  • Richie Farmer is from the same area as Maci.
  • Maci’s dad and Freddie Maggard are good friends.
  • Kash Daniels dad and her dad played Basketball together at East Tennessee State.
  • Maci and Kash do talk and know each other.
  • Her mom was a PG at Transy.
  • She did not expect to come in and play as much as she has this year.
  • She likes Bo Bobs Pizza.
  • Maci wants fans to get out to the game tonight to give the girls energy and root them on to the Elite 8.

John Short says the women will win by 10 big’ns tonight.

Coach Mitchell may do a Big Blue Madness dance tonight if they win by 10 big’ns.

Coach Cal told Matt this morning to tell Matthew Mitchell to “Kick some ass tonight!”

Coach Mitchell challenges everyone thats on the fence to get out to Rupp tonight and help cheer on the girls!

Maci Morris was named after Kyle Macy, and wears number 4 because of Macy as well.

Coach Cal visited “said” recruit yesterday.

Whom of course from previous knowledge given to use by KSR, we know to be Marques Bolden.

The newest Mock Draft has our guys projected to get drafted at these spots.

  • Jamal Murray 3 (possibly picked by the Suns or Kings)
  • Skal Labissiere 14
  • Tyler Ulis 20 (possibly picked by the Indiana Pacers, where I will then want season tickets.)

Tyler has not yet hired an agent. Giving the option to come back if he decides to.

Although with the new rule, players no longer need an agent to talk to NBA teams like they did in the past. So this isn’t as much of a clue that a player will be returning as it used to be.

I totally agree that anyone saying you absolutely want Tyler Ulis to come back, you are being selfish. Although, as I stated earlier this week when we discussed what next year’s team could look like, I do think if HE decides that coming back is what he wants to do and is best for him then we should not question it and welcome him back of course. For one the freshman guards that will be here next year, Fox and Monk, will most certainly be spectacular. Although depending on whether Isaiah Briscoe is back or not and if he is in the starting line up or not next year. The back up guard positions will lack a lot of depth and the talent gap will be significant. While I love Dominique Hawkins and feel like he will/could have a big role on next years team, Hawkins and Briscoe (if he returns) will be about the end of the depth line. So I dont know what Calipari would decide to do with the starting lineup if by chance Tyler did choose to return, but assuming he would be in it. That would significantly improve the depth at the guard position next year. While his draft stock most likely couldnt get much better than it is right now, and coming back could be a risk for Tyler. This team next year would have strength and depth at every postion and would be completely insane. Yet like Matt says I think the likelyhood that Ulis returns is very low, and it seems like going into the NBA this year would most likely be the best thing for him, again the following draft will be A LOT stronger. If he does come back, then everyone watch out, that would almost insure greatness for the 2016-2017 Wildcats.

Yesterday comic book geeks got mad at Matt and the guys for not knowing about Batman and Superman.

I still can’t wait to see this movie, I think I’ll see it this weekend as a matter a fact. I know Matt is not in tune with the comic book nerd community but he should know if he puts out any comment over the airwaves about Batman and Superman that they are going to come out of the woodwork and bring down Thor’s Hammer on his head for talkin trash. Matt’s Twitter mentions where pretty hilarious yesterday after the show.

Fred from Indiana is the most improved caller of the day. Totally won over the guys.

and I apologize for saying he was illogical.

Matt says there are not 5 women that would sleep with Ted Cruz so he couldn’t have 5 mistresses.

Coach Calipari joins Matt and Ryan on KSR

  • He is still nauseous from the loss
  • He has not watched tape or any other basketball since the loss to Indiana.
  • No matter who it is to, losing and knowing the season is over hurts.
  • If 4-5 guys didn’t play well then we couldn’t win and why we didn’t.
  • Which also put to much pressure on the guards.
  • It wasn’t about shooting, we needed big guys to step up.
  • We shouldn’t have been playing IU that weekend.
  • The corner three IU hit at the end of the game was devastating
  • Sending all of the kids to the draft is the logical thing to do.
  • There is no down time
  • He was having fun telling Jonny that he is also declaring, so he can fax in the paperwork and show his kids and grandkids later on in life that he declared for the NBA draft after his freshman year.
  • He told Tyler if you think your going to be here 4 year’s then dont come here, and thats when Tyler decided he’s coming here because he knew Cal believed in him.
  • The low side of Tyler Ulis in the NBA is a backup PG, we all know the high side.
  • There are teams in the NBA that could use Tyler as a Starting PG.
  • Once he really digs into recruiting it is easier to get over losing.
  • He is proud of this year’s team for all that they did.
  • But it ended way to soon.
  • The Cats played 5 games in 8 days.
  • Cal tells everybody to get out to the womens game tonight and help get our girls to the Final Four!

Thank you Big Blue Nation for listening to KSR and joining us here for the KSR After Show! Everyone have a great Easter weekend, and go cheer on the UK womens hoops team! Like we always say, remember it could be worse, you could be a Louisville fan! Go Big Blue!

The KSR After Show All-Time Favorite Pro Wrestler Tournament

Wednesday on KSR a caller asked Matt what his favorite pro wrestler was, so I had an idea to make a bracket that we can all vote on to pick Big Blue Nations overall All-Time Favorite Pro Wrestler. Check out the bracket and vote on ROUND ONE HERE!

KSR After Show 3/24/16

Man it feels like it’s been a month now since the Cats played Stony Brook in the NCAA Tournament. It’s Thursday morning and it’s only been 7 days since facing the Seawolves. We have games starting back up again tonight, and it’s just a bummer. Yet Matt and KSR are here to help us forget about the fact that Kentucky won’t be playing this weekend. If you paid any attention to KSR last night then you know there’s plenty to talk about today, and I’m pretty sure Matt is fired up about it so it should be a good show!

Remember to CALL or TEXT The KSR After Show @ 775-583-7483 and leave your voicemails and texts so we can post them for everyone to enjoy!

On Today’s KSR:

Coach Cal announced that every player on the team will declare for the draft.

Swaggy Cal at his best being the innovator that he is and paving the way for the rest of the nation. Doing this gets Kentucky back in the news after losing to Indiana. It’s another recruiting tool helping completely shed any remaining platoon reminence. He can tell these kids “see we allow everyone to declare, every year”. Then also as Matt points out, now players that want to go to the NBA but don’t get the news they want from teams like Isaiah Briscoe and Marcus Lee will be able to come back with the rest of the guys that obviously are coming back, and save them some embarrassment of individually coming back. Cal is a damn genius and marketing guru.

Captain Suntan is being sued for blatantly calling out a random guy on the radio for being the mole giving Matt info on UofL. The guy, Scott Jennings who Matt does not know is suing the radio station, Captain Suntan, and Mike Rutherford.

This is hilarious and just continues to show the incompetency surrounding that program. Many updates to come!

Bangs and Matty Bangs!

Sounds like the title to a new, New Jersey reality show.

“Worry about your Bologna hair!”

Along with Matty Bangs, this should be put on a t-shirt. Get on it Jared Lorenzen.

Katina Powell and STD are now Facebook friends.

She searched for The Dude and friend requested him. Like Shannon said she must have heard about his booty shaking contest. Trying to supplement her income I’m sure.

Katt Williams got choked out by a 15 year old kid.

Here is an article from TMZ explaining what went down.

Technically UNC didn’t violate an NCAA rule, but because it’s so bad they are going to reprimand them anyway. That’s why it’s taking so long.

Matt has said in the past that if UNC makes it to the Final Four that there will be more attention brought on what’s going on at UNC. So maybe we will learn more soon.

  • Is finally over the IU loss.
  • He didn’t like the 16 turnovers though.
  • Everyone better wake up and smell the roses and quit bashing Cal!
  • He’s all over Facebook.

Tom Crean asked the NCAA after beating Kentucky to go to the Sweet 16 if they could cut down the nets…as Kansas and UConn where warming up for their game that was about to begin.

This is the most absurd and so Tom Crean and Indiana thing to do. While I do believe Matt and his source, I wish they would have let them do it just so we would have solid hilarious video proof.

Sometimes people just don’t understand the decision these kids are trying to make.

For one, to those of you that seem to not know. The rule has changed and the players now are allowed to declare for the draft and come back as many times as they want! It no longer means that because they declare that they can’t return to the team. So guys please stop it, BBN looks very ignorant when some of you go off on these uninformed tangents. Two, none of you know what’s going on in these kids lives, what their dreams are, or what’s best for them so please stop pretending like you do. Yes voice your opinion freely, but don’t belittle these kids or coaches that only have their best interests in mind.

If the new draft rule in place this year was in place last year, Dakari Johnson would have probably been on this years team.

If Katina Powell messages Shannon on FB and wants to come watch Fuller House with him, would he do it?

Shannon says he would, would you?

Chris Stapleton is having a free concert at Johnson County High School.

The Kentucky Football spring game is being televised on the SEC Network this year.

The blue/white game will start at noon, April 16th, on the SEC Network.

Evan was a logical Indiana fan.

In Concord NC a man was arrested for not returning a Freddie got Fingered VHS tape 16 years ago to a Blockbuster Video that doesn’t exsist.

Uh oh, you know all of our minds just went bananas trying to figure out what we failed to return to Blockbuster or anywhere else. Matt admitted that he still has Species 2.

Tom Crean and Calipari apparently had a falling out over Trey Lyles, but now they’re back on good terms.

Tai Wynyard and Isaac Humphries are to young to enter the draft, so they are the only two players that will not declare.

Whaaaat? That’s a bummer, Matt says Batman v Superman is getting terrible reviews.

I was so excited about this movie, hopefully it’s just a bunch of DC haters and it really is good. This just bums me out.

Tune in to KSR tomorrow at 10am EST where the gang will be at the practice facility on the UK campus and will have some special guests.

Have a great day BBN! Bangs! Bangs!

KSR After Show 3/23/16

Hey BBN you’ve made it to the Wednesday 3/23/16 addition of the KSR After Show. Today we’ll give you all of the discussions that the Kentucky Sports Radio crew talked about on the show today so we can keep the chatter going here. We want to know what you are thinking about, mad about, sad about. Let it all out here rather than to that guy next to you at work who really isn’t listening.

You can CALL or TEXT The KSR After Show @ 775-583-7483 and leave your voicemails and texts to get them posted to the KSR After Show for all of BBN to enjoy.

On Today’s Show:

STD’s are approved at Louisville.

Shannon the Dudes that is.

Today’s Ryanism: Good welcomes.

Go zags and Aggies

I think a lot of BBN is rooting for Gonzaga going forward, maybe A&M too but all year I’ve wanted success for Wiltjer and have now completely jumped on the Zags bandwagon.

Dan Dakich is trolling hard still.

He can’t find enough time on his radio show to talk about Indiana beating Kentucky, his ridiculous notion that Yogi Ferrell is better than Tyler Ulis, and uses the rest of the time to make fun of Matt and all of Kentucky. I propose that from 12-3pm we all call and tweet his show non stop and do our best to sabotage his broadcast.

Listening to ignorant people is worse than actually losing the game.

I completely agree, I live 20 minutes east of Indianapolis so this statement is 10 times more prevalent for me. I’ve gotten a hundred “Hoosier Daddy?”s in the last week and that gets old rather quickly.

Robic says, this is the summer for Tai Wynyard and Isaac Humphries to get better and contribute next season.

There will be SO many forwards on the Kentucky roster next year. Even without Bolden, whom it does seem like UK is going to have as well. These two guys are going to have to work their tails off this summer and get significantly better before they will be able to take any minutes away from the highly skilled guys that are coming in. Like Matt said Wynyard is the biggest mystery and we really have no idea where he will fall into place with this group.

The last couple weeks at UofL the consensus is that the hammer is still coming down.

After the self imposed post season ban, everyone in Louisville thought that’d be the end of it, but now the general consensus is that the hammer is still coming and could be heavy.

Hahahahaha! John Short is a snooooozing!

Man I love this show haha

John Short won’t get wild on nobody.

There are 25 5 star recruits coming to play college basketball next year.

I believe Matt said the norm is 7-9 each year, so 25 is just insane.

The NBA Draft is pretty weak and Jamal Murray can go as high as 4th.

Which means there is a good chance that Murray ends up being drafted by the Kings or the Pelicans and obviously either option would be awesome.

Isaiah Briscoe thoughts:

Matt says there is probably no one on Kentucky’s roster that wants to go to the NBA more than Briscoe. Although points out that he wouldn’t take him because he is either a PG or SG that plays pretty good defense but can’t shoot 3’s or 2’s that well either, and is terrible at the free throw line. Those attributes are obviously  not what teams are looking for in the league. I bet Briscoe will still give it hell trying to prove himself this summer though.

Darren Henshaw said he had to change all of the QBs foot work and mechanics because they had been taught completely wrong.

I don’t know Henshaw or Eddie Gran from Adam and don’t know why but for some reason I trust these guys already and love that they’re not afraid to take some shots like this.

KSR has inspirational signs all over the studio now.

“Don’t get in Facebook wars with prostitutes.” -Uncle Matt

Matt totally just said Katina Powell has got the goods. Haha.

That may be a little out of context but I had to do it because I’m a 10 year old.

What is your favorite Cal era win?

For me it’s really that 3 game stretch of Aaron Harrison magic in the Tourny with the 2014 team. Although a lot of games can give those moments a run for their money, including at South Carolina this year.

Friday KSR will be doing the show live from the practice facility at UK. They will have Women’s Hoops Coach Matthew Mitchell and hopefully someone from the men’s side as well on the show. Tune in tomorrow and Friday at 10am EST to get your Kentucky fix.

Have a great day BBN, thank you for checking out today’s KSR After Show!

KSR After Show 3/22/16

Kentucky Sports Radio is at Salsa Rita’s in Louisville today for Kentucky Taco Tuesday. They’ll continue to try their best to break down this year’s Kentucky Basketball season and let us all know what happened and why. None of us want the season to be over right now, but what else can we do now? We can discuss it, try to understand it and get past it all, thank these players and coaches and get geared up for everything to come involving the University of Kentucky this summer. So let’s listen in as Matt and the gang drop some knowledge on all of us while stuffing tacos and chips n salsa in their faces.

CALL or TEXT the KSR After Show and voice your opinion @ 775-583-7483 and we will post your voicemails or messages on the website for everyone to enjoy.

Cheerleaders for the Kentucky Wildcats stand for the performance of the National Anthem against the Mississippi State Bulldogs during the final of the SEC Men's Basketball Tournament at the Bridgestone Arena on March 14, 2010 in Nashville, Tennessee.

How do we look back on this Kentucky Basketball season as a whole? A Failure? Or that we got everything we could out of this team and it was a great coaching job by Calipari.

Matt says that is was a good year that wasn’t a failure, but not a great year. Me, I just feel like we had a normal year. Not Kentucky normal, but a normal college basketball season with bad losses, great wins, inconsistent play most likely because of inexperience, that ended with having a bad shooting night for a shooting team (other than Ulis) in the tournament. While I do also think it was a great coaching job by Cal, maybe his best. Simple as this, we had two guys in Ulis and Murray that had to show up in every game and that’s a difficult task to ask of any young kid and sometimes it doesn’t work out. Skal not being the offensive Nerlens 2.0, and having mostly poor frontcourt contributions all year, where the differences in getting the team that we got this year rather than potential greatness again.

Going all in on the one and done system gives a coach little room for error.

You take your chances with the freshman players that you recruit producing immediately, and if that doesn’t happen just like it didn’t with Skal this year. Then your fate as a team is basically in the hands of those players turning it around, or plugging and playing who you can and hoping one or more unexpectedly step up. Much like Derek Willis did this year, which turned this roster into a completely different team, but because of injury and again inconsistent play he wasn’t able to show up in every game including Indiana as well. So you just have to take what you can get and go with it on any given night. Although like Matt stated, 2 years out of 7 where in the other 5 The Cats ended the season in either an Elite 8 appearance, Final Four appearances, and a National Championship is worth the risk and the way to go.

Ryan is sad for Tyler Ulis.

Tyler Ulis and Jamal Murray really did deserve a lot more than an early exit in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. They played their hearts out all season.

By the end of the year where the Cats one of the 7 best teams in the country?

Yes, and it was obvious when Tyler and Jamal where “On” and we got anything out of a couple of the big guys they were definitely in the top 7, but when one of these factors weren’t there for the Cats they looked like a team outside of the top 25.

This team was better than the 2014 team. The 2014 team just got hot and made a run in the NCAA Tournament.

Last summer we all thought Mykal Mulder would start in front of Briscoe and be a solid knock down shooter.

Mulder made 4 shots and 2 free throws all year. Derek Willis emerged into the roll that everyone thought Mulder would be in, but it still wasn’t enough to make up for the deficiencies down low.

Is the Ulis and Murray combination the best backcourt combination in UK history?

KSR will start player interviews next week on the show.

The UK Women beat Oklahoma to go to the Sweet 16 last night.

They are still playing in Lexington and have a really good chance to make the Final Four this year, get your butts out to root on our women’s team BBN and help Coach Mitchell will these girls all the way to the finals!

The Cats where ranked 57th in defense this year, and ended the season as 1st on offense.

This team showed flashes of playing good defense this year, but really against not good teams. Like Stony Brook, where they broke the UK and national single tournament game block record. On the season as a whole though this Kentucky team was the worst defensive team of the Cal era.

Ulis, Briscoe, and Hawkins where the only good defenders on this year’s team.

Twill has really long nasty fingernails, and made a 32 minute video reply to Katina Powell.

  • May 25th is the new deadline to declare for the draft
  • May 18th is the end of the spring signing period.

What is more disappointing a second round loss in the NCAA Tournament, or not making a bowl game in football?

We had three really bad losses this year.

  • Ohio State
  • Auburn
  • Tennessee

Calipari is NOT going to play zone, give it up people, please.

Next year’s basketball schedule has some powerhouse games on it.

  • Louisville at Louisville
  • Michigan St. at the Champions Classic
  • UNC in Las Vegas
  • At Arizona St
  • UCLA at Rupp Arena
  • Kansas at Rupp Arena

Yogi Ferrell’s Mom posted a PHOTOSHOPPED picture of Tyler Ulis on her twitter account flipping off the crowd at Auburn with the caption “Who is classy now?”

Apparently she took it down and set her twitter page to private now, but how is this at all classy for a parent to do trying to degrade a kid around the same age as her own son that gave his heart to this Kentucky team? Just incredible, and shows some of the character surrounding the Indiana Basketball program.

De’Aaron Fox, Malik Monk, and Bam Adebayo will for sure start next year.

With this discussion, I thought it’d be fun to put out a completely wrong early early prediction of the roster and starting lineup for next years team.

  1. De’Aaron Fox 6’3 G Freshman
  2. Malik Monk 6’4 G Freshman
  3. Wenyen Gabriel F 6’9 Freshman
  4. Bam Adebayo 6’9 F Freshman
  5. Marques Bolden 6’10 F/C Freshman

  1. Isaiah Briscoe 6’3 G Sophmore
  2. Derek Willis 6’9 F Senior
  3. Dominique Hawkins 6’0 G Senior
  4. Marcus Lee 6’9 F Senior
  5. Sacha Killeya-Jones 6’10 F Freshman
  6. Isaac Humphries 7’0 F/C Sophmore
  7. Tai Wynyard 6’10 F Sophmore
  8. Mychal Mulder 6’4 G Senior
  9. Jonny David 6’2 G Sophmore
  10. Brad Calipari G Freshman

*Unfortunately Charles Matthews will be the odd man out. His defense and hustle improved throughout the season but because of his poor shooting he will be the one to make the tough decision to transfer as he won’t have a place on this team.

*I think this 5 starting freshman is the way you have to go because of the lack of quality guards on this team. The Tyler Ulis rumors that he may come back should be welcomed by everyone in Big Blue Nation. While the recruiting class as a whole is amazing and while Fox and Monk will be fantastic the drop off in guard play will be significant next year. Thats why I have Isaiah Briscoe coming off the bench because if not, the only true point guard we will have coming off the bench that will play quality minutes is Dominique Hawkins.

Anthony Davis is out for the season and has had a torn labrum for the past three years.

Ouch, let’s all hope he gets back to 100% and becomes the superstar we all know that Anthony will be.

Tune in to KSR tomorrow at 10am EST to continue the talk on these topics and many more. We’ve all got to take it one day at a time to get past the gut punch that we took last week, and KSR is here to help. Everyone have a great Taco Tuesday!

KSR After Show 3/21/16

Well shoot, this is difficult and all I do is talk about what another show talks about. It’s time though, I don’t know about most of you but after 7:30pm on Saturday I took the next 24 hours off from basketball and gave myself time to reflect and appreciate being a part of BBN. While I missed some good NCAA Tournament games, I think it helped. I don’t feel as sour today as I normally would, and possibly should. So let’s all collect ourselves and tune in to Kentucky Sports Radio. Where uncle Matt and the guys will surely give us the complete perspective that we all need and help us understand what happened, and where we go from here.

CALL or TEXT The KSR After Show @ 775-583-7483 and leave your comments so we can post them to the website for all of BBN to enjoy.

On today’s KSR:

Sigh..that’s really all we can do today.

Saturday’s loss is a really tough loss to take just as any lose in the Tournament is. Compounded by the fact that it’s to an Indiana team whom have the most obnoxious and dislikeable fans in the country. Only comparable to Duke, Louisville, and some would say UK fans. Yet we will rigorously fend them off and move right along, because in the bigger picture Kentucky is still the gold standard and Indiana is still Indiana.

The emotions in the locker room by the players was overwhelming.

I tried watching the video of Jamal Murray in the locker room after the game that KSR posted, but I couldn’t. So I won’t post it here either.  Knowing that all of these great guys are heartbroken whether they are one and done players or not is sobering to watch but it does give me enormous pride to be a part of something that means so much to these guys. Even if it is something as minuscule as being a fan.

Matt won’t blame the committee for this loss.

Says that he would if UK would have beaten IU and then lost to UNC. Which makes since because we could have and should have beaten Indiana. We can’t fault anyone else but Kentucky’s poor play for not being in the Sweet 16. I totally agree, no one really showed up besides Tyler Ulis, and Dominque Hawkins. Skal while not consistent wasn’t terrible either.

Matt believes we would have lost to UNC next weekend anyway.

I’m not so certain in that statement, it would have been a tough matchup. Although I do believe if the Cats played how they had several times this year that we could have knocked off the Tar Heels.

Matt has never watched a Sportscenter broadcast after a Kentucky loss.

Former Kentucky players from 5 different teams sat together cheering for the Cats and all went into the post game locker room to comfort and calm the current players.

Very cool, which doesn’t happen at every University, and didn’t used to happen here.

This was not a Cal team.

Coach Cal is normally not trying to construct a team like we had this year. We had jump shooters relying on having their shots fall consistently. We had no solid frontcourt presence, in part because Skal’s contributions where over estimated and the ups and downs of the rest of the big guys all year individually where to unpredictable. The coaching job Calipari did to get this team to where it was, was nothing short of incredible.

Calipari thought he had an offensive Nerlens Noel in Skal.

And as we fully know that is not even remotely similar to what he got. No matter how much we love the kid.

Oh here we go, the first Indiana caller Fred thinking IU is back on the map.

Wrong. You’ll have to do more than beat an achieving, but under achieving in most eyes of unrelenting fans, Kentucky team in the second round of the NCAA Tournament to get back to mattering. Maybe it’s a first small step, but maybe not, and good luck on Thursday where you’ll likely go back to Bloomington without a Sweet 16 victory and it’ll all be for nothing. Other than maybe helping keep Tom Crean creeping on your sidelines for another year.

No baby oil.

Michigan State losing was the biggest upset of the year.

I still can’t believe it. That is the magic of March though and why we love it.

Kentucky doesn’t have a Lehigh or Mercer.

Knock on hardwood.

Kentucky didn’t lose because of officiating.

Again it’s on the Cats, everyone besides Tyler Ulis and Dominque Hawkins played pretty terrible, Skal also gave UK a little something, but it obviously wasn’t enough.

UK finished the year with the number 1 offense.

But really didn’t look like it often throughout the season and for sure not on Saturday against Indiana.

Jamal Murray didn’t shoot well either game.

He was 1-9 from three against Indiana. The most prolific scorer in the Cal era unfortunately didn’t show up in the NCAA Tournament. We still appreciate you though Jamal, thank you!

Since the Tourny went to 64 teams Kentucky has never lost in the first round as a 1-6 seed.

While the rest of the historically great teams have, some more than once. Again knock on hardwood.

If Dakari Johnson was on this team it would have been a completely different team.

Don’t even want to think about it, but a big guy like Dakari was apparently lacking on this roster. Even a non basketball Benny could see that.

There are some Kentucky fans that swear Tyler Ulis is coming back next year.

Man that pulls at my selfish heart strings. You would be off your damn rocker if you wouldn’t welcome Tyler back with open arms. Although for his sake he has got to go to the NBA, right? He had an amazing year, and I’m not saying he couldn’t do it again. I fully believe he could, but weighing the risk reward it’s hard to see that coming back is truly in his best interest. Gah, that’d be so awesome though, and we would then need to build him a statue. Immediately.

Apparently what’s going on at Western Kentucky is absolutely terrible, but none of us know what’s going on yet.

Sounds like this is going to be a huge unfortunate scandal when it breaks.

We won’t know the complete roster for a long time this coming season.

Because of the new rule allowing all players to declare for the draft and decide to come back as much as they want, will prove to be a great thing for all players. Yet will possibly hinder recruitment because we won’t know who is staying and who is going until the last minute. I support this rule though, it was totally unfair to those kids that had to within a week make the biggest decision of their lives. Plus Cal is a master recruiter and will figure it out.

It is a possibility that Marcus Lee could graduate this summer and be a graduate transfer somewhere.

That’s a touchy subject but I think even with the talent coming in he will still have a place on this team.

An early look into next year.

Coach Cal has been saying next year could be his best recruiting class ever, even knowing the pressure that puts on the players and himself. He is confident in himself saying so. That should keep us all excited for next year throughout the summer.

Where would Briscoe play on this team next year?

I feel like even in the lose against IU that quietly, I even failed to mention him above, Briscoe’s play was solid. He gave great effort and played some lockdown defense, shot a couple surprisingly fluid jump shots, and made free throws. Even if it’s defensively I think he’d have a role in next years team.

Steve’s call was a flippin awesome call, high five Steve.

A bouncer in Des Moines got bounced.

UK women play Oklahoma tonight for a chance to go to the sweet 16.

Katina Powell and Terrence Jones had an interesting interaction on Facebook.

Scoop Lemond is on the beat again.

Dunbar High School won their first State Title this weekend.

If Kentucky would have been switched with Texas A&M in the bracket, as they arguably should have been. We would have played Green Bay and UNI in the first two rounds.

Again we can’t blame the committee but this is interesting to consider.

Do we still really want either of the Miller brothers if/when Calipari leaves.

I don’t want to think about that, I want the Cal era to continue for a long long time. But I’m a no, I don’t want Sean or Archie Miller anymore.

Tomorrow KSR is at Salsa Rita’a off Shelbyville Rd. Tune in at 10am EST to hear the latest UK recruiting news, what’s going on with Kentucky football, and continue to move past what was a great basketball season but disappointing  early exit from the NCAA Tournament.

And remember, it could be worse, you could be a Louisville fan…

To Big Blue Nation…

Head Coach John Calipari of the Kentucky Wildcats shouts downcourt against the Tennessee Volunteers in a game at Thompson-Boling Arena on February 2, 2016 in Knoxville, Tennessee.

Scream it from the roof tops, wear it proud on your sleeve, but don’t you be petulant Blue Blue Nation.  Don’t you do that to this team, this program, and yourselves. This team that gave you it’s heart and soul, our coach that gave this team the knowledge and strength to want to be better, for themselves and our own selfish desires. To you, the ones that held true-blue all season long. Those that never wavered, never doubted, those of you that where strong through it all and till the very end. Don’t you prove to Indiana and all of the other deterrents that you (we) are who they thought we where. A glass half empty individual whom also spouts that their drink was poisoned has no place here. Remember who we are, who we are supposed to be, and why we do this. Why we care so much, and why this fan base is the greatest on Earth. A gold watch never tarnishes, a diamond will not shatter, and the gold standard should never falter.

If you are not proud of this team, can’t let go of any mistakes that were made, whether in house or not. Then you take this game way to seriously and need to examine the real reasoning behind your displeasure. This is a time for reflection on the incredible season as a whole regardless of the pitfalls, and the time to thank all of the players and any coaches, assistants, staff members and all of their families. Without them and all of their hard work and dedication Big Blue Nation would not be what it is. So please, let all of your grievances, objections, and injustices go and let’s not live up to everyone’s presumptions of our tendencies.

I’m not sure if I’m alone here, but yes even compared to last years historical team. To me there was just something about this team. The devastation of the only lose last year was overwhelming for all of us, but knowing that yesterday was the last time I will see this team the way it was constructed this year really hurts. It stings knowing that Tyler Ulis with his somewhat subtle but irrepressible exsistance as the leader of this team will no longer be a crutch that we can all count on every game. The severity of knowing that Jamal Murray wont be fighting through screens and piercing the nets with his arrows next year, that we all took for granted, is harrowing. Visualizing a Kentucky team without Alex Poythress, his strength and dexterity after having the comfort of knowing he is there for the last four years is unbecoming. I loved this team, and these guys, like I knew them and I did not. Which being a part of Big Blue Nation is just the norm, but there was something different for me this year. Even during the downs, I loved this team. I dont want to see any of them go, whether it be to the NBA, graduation, or God for bid anything else. Thank you to all of you guys, if you’ll be a part of this team next year or not. Thank you for the effort throughout all of the amazing games you gave all of us to entertain our insane fandom. Thank you for caring as much as we do. Thank you for being first class honorable men whom we should all look up to and strive to be in our own lives. Big Blue Nation take what they gave us and admire it forever, not self-servingly dwell on what they didn’t and who wronged us along the way. That’s the cowardly way of rooting for a team and should not be accepted by anyone who says they are a part of the Gold Standard in College Basketball. I have a section of my blog called the KSR After Show and I haven’t been able to listen to any post game shows, read anything on theirs or anyones website, and hardly pay attention to any other NCAA Tournament games since 7:30pm yesterday, but for good reason. It gave me time to properly manifest my own thoughts and do my best not to take anything for granted. So I ask all of you to do the same, show our players, coaches and everyone involved in the program we all love the greatest respect, and remember who we are.

We Are Kentucky.

Cheerleaders and fans of the Kentucky Wildcats support their team during the game against the Kansas Jayhawks on January 9, 2005 at Rupp Arena in Lexington, Kentucky. Kansas defeated Kentucky 65-59. The 24,367 in attendance was the second largest crowd in arena history.

KSR After Show 3/18/16

“It’s Friday, ain’t got no job, ain’t got nuttin to do, I’ma get you high.” On some Kentucky Basketball, and Kentucky Sports Radio. Ah, who am I kidding if your not already fired up about the win last night and the matchup with Indiana tomorrow then you don’t have a pulse. None the less KSR is still in Des Moines, Iowa after a great opening round win by the Cats last night. On today’s show Matt and company will break down the terrible first half shooting by Kentucky, and how they eventually came together with staggering defense to take down Stony Brook. Looking forward, of course all of the talk is going to be about the Cats second round game against the Big Ten Champs Indiana tomorrow. So let’s listen in to KSR and hear what Matt and the guys (and Kaylee Hartung I believe) have to say about Kentucky’s chances and what’s to come in the NCAA Tournament.

To get any of your thoughts out there, Call or Text us on the KSR After Show Hotline @ 775-583-7483 we will post any voicemails and texts to the site for everyone to enjoy.

On today’s show:

We over hyped the Seawolves.

To me Stony Brook looked like a glorified high school team with a decent D1 big man last night. The Seawolves and Warney where way over hyped, but these things happen and we will move right along because it doesn’t matter anymore.

Indiana played well against Chattanooga and shot 65% from the field.

Yeah, let’s hope the Cats got all of their shooting woes out in the first half last night and that the swarming defense will continue. We will be playing an Indiana team tomorrow who have found their stroke and show no signs of letting up.

Jim Nantz said in his 30 years of broadcasting he’s never seen a better 2nd round matchup.

It really is crazy that the Big Ten Champs and the SEC Champs will meet in the second round tomorrow. Although again, we gotta play the games so let’s go get it done boys!

Marcus Lee told UK fans to get in their cars and come to Iowa.

Indiana will have the crowd.

Unless BBN shows up in droves either today or tomorrow, the majority of the fans in the crowd will be Kansas and Indiana fans unfortunately.

Kentucky has been a better program than Indiana for 30 years.

True statement by Matthew, and win or lose tomorrow that won’t change. Let’s just all hope the Cats can get the win so we don’t have to listen to obnoxious IU fans.

Indiana is the Falconcrest of College Basketball.

Sean Miller looked like he jumped in a swimming pool last night.

And for good reason because they got beat down by Wichita St.

Apparently UNC fans don’t want to play Kentucky.

Good, stay worried Tar Heel fans, we’re coming for you.

Ryan almost got the KSR crew kicked out of the Marriott last night.

Coach cal said Jamal Murray had probably never even watched an NCAA Tournament game on TV before playing in one last night.

Being from Canada, it’s hard being  a college basketball fan in America to see this, apparently Jamal Murray hadn’t ever watched the NCAA Tournament.

“Oh, me so Warney.”

Matt went off on an Indiana fan on the postgame show last night.

And it was awesome. That caller couldn’t wait to say he was at the Wofford game.

Harold is now on a t-shirt shooting his bow n arrow.

I really need that shirt. Think he said it’s Kennedy’s Wildcat Den that made it.

Briscoe had a double double last night.

Tyler Ulis broke John Walls single season assist record last night.

Alex Poythress has 960 points in his UK career.

Obviously 40 points away from 1000. We need him to have a big game against Indiana, most likely UNC in the sweet 16, and in the elite 8 to get him there or close to it.

Jamal Murray became the 7th wildcat to score 700 points in a season. He has also passed Tony Delk for consecutive games with at least 1 three.

Kentucky can break UNLVs consecutive games with at least 1 three pointer by hitting one tomorrow.

Kaylee Hartung is joining the guys Live in Des Moines to talk about the Tournament.

And Matt may have just pee’d a little. Notice that Matt fumbled and stumbled through a Sleep Outfitters ad then said, “the lovely Kaylee Hartung just sat down here with us” Just ask her to go to Zombie Burger with you Matt!

  • Kaylee credits last years Kentucky team for helping boost her career.
  • Says there is a big gap between UK basketball fans and Alabama football fans. With UK at the top of course.
  • Kaylee has been skydiving 4 times.
  • Her dad was an acrobatic pilot.
  • She wants to jump out of an airplane into an arena on ESPN for a game.
  • Says the Ulis/Yogi matchup will be the best PG matchup of the Tourny.
  • The UK/IU game will be all she’s talking about on Sportscenter tomorrow.
  • She gets asked about Matt having a crush on her constantly by BBN.
  • Oooo and she’s flattered, Oooo la la. Ha ha.
  • Matt quickly changes the subject back to the game.
  • Kaylee picks Kentucky in the game tomorrow, and somewhat admits to maybe becoming a  bit of a UK homer.
  • She technically doesn’t have a home. Matty has a free room I’m sure.
  • Her family lives in Baton Rouge.
  • Matt wants her to move to Lexington.

Ryan and Drew are giving Matt hell for that gitty interview with Kaylee, as they should.

Amanda Lemond is mad at Matt for making fun of Ryan for calling her 11 times in a day making her look like a crazy wife, and for not keeping Ryan in line while they’re in Iowa.

Drew is wearing underwear.

Tomorrow the KSR Pregame Show starts at 2:30pm EST to get us ready for the big game against Indiana

Kentucky vs Indiana 5:15pm EST tomorrow March 19th in Des Moines, Iowa for the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

KSR After Show, St. Patricks Day Addition. 3/17/16

The 2016 NCAA Tournament has arrived and it’s game day for Kentucky! Tonight the Cats play the Seawolves of Stony Brook at 9:40EST. Kentucky Sports Radio has arrived in Des Moines, Iowa to bring us all the coverage of our boys in blue that we can handle going up until and after game time. So let’s listen in and see what plans Matt and the gang have in store for us today, and what we can look forward to throughout the day with the Cats and the rest of the NCAA Tournament.

Remember to CALL or TEXT The KSR After Show Hotline @ 775-583-7483 with any of your own thoughts, predictions, or anything else you would like to get out there to the masses. We’ll post any messages on the website for everyone to enjoy and send in their replies to. GO CATS!!

On Today’s Show:

It’s going to be a long day for KSR and Kentucky/KSR fans.

We all know the game doesn’t start until 9:40 today, so we are looking at a close to midnight ending to the game and a 1:00am KSR post game show.

BBN as we know always travels well, but sadly there are only a few Kentucky fans in Des Moines right now.

Matt and the gang point out that obviously Kansas fans are in Des Moines, so they are worried that if Kentucky pulls out the win tonight and so does Indiana. They believe that on top of any IU fans that will be there, Kansas fans will stay and root for Indiana. Providing a true road game type environment for the Cats on Saturday.

Ryan is a little bit of a mess today.

Ryan needs to stay away from mixing night quill and alcohol, apparently he had a rough night and struggling a little bit this morning.

Start the party when Oscar Combs arrives.

and Oscar has arrived.

Ryan called his wife at least 11 times yesterday.

All of you ladies out there know that if you where married to Ryan you’d be keeping close tabs on him too, so I’m not surprised by this at all. A little much though, a bit much Ryan.

Jameel Warney has became Shaq reincarnate in the last few days.

EVERYONE, I mean everyone is talking about this kid. I get that he is good and will most likely cause the Cats some trouble tonight, but the Seawolves have played sub par competition all year and haven’t faced a team with the length that Kentucky has. Yeah Warney may get his if he lives up to all of the hype since Selection Sunday, but I believe there is also a good chance that the combination of Alex Poythress, Marcus Lee, and Isaac Humphries can slow the big man down enough for him to be a non factor. Or at least let’s hope so.

Stony Brook was one of Matt’s upset picks before the brackets came out.

They’ve became a lot of sports analyst favorite Cinderella pick in the NCAA Tournament. I just can’t see it, probably because I am a homer, but Kentucky has been playing so well and living up to greater challenges than Stony Brook in recent weeks. So I just dont see it. I think the Cats are going to come out ready to play and put out everyones Cinderella hopes as far as Stony Brook is concerned.

Swaggy Cal took a shot at Pitino yesterday.

Coach said about his first NCAA Tournament as a coach in 1992 when his UMass team was beaten by Kentucky, “That game, by us losing, led to Christian Laettner’s catch against Kentucky when Rick should have had the guy on the ball and he took that guy off the ball and they threw it deep and the guy turns and scores.”

Gauntlet thrown! That’s a gut punch if I’ve ever heard one.

Kentucky has been working on the big men taking defenders off the dribble.

Showing us that the bigs tonight will be trying to force Jameel Warney into difficult defending positions as they will be trying to force him into foul trouble. I just hope they listened well and this doesn’t back fire into a bunch of charging calls on Kentucky getting our bigs in foul trouble. I’m sure Cal will abandon that thinking if that happens though.

Indiana fans are already printing t-shirts for the game against Kentucky… I told ya, looking right past Chattanooga.

Watch the Indiana vs Chattanooga game today starting at 7:00pm EST on CBS before the Kentucky game, because this one could get interesting.

Drew is all in on Chattanooga, and so am I.

I’m with Drew and calling an upset of Indiana by Chattanooga today, not because I have factual stats to back that up. Just because I would love to see it, and Tom Crean is boob and will lead his team into choketown tonight.

Ryan calls the Chattanooga coach, Coach Snothead…

If you go to Des Moines, there will be tickets available, and they are cheap.

The word on the streets of Des Moines is that there are still lots of cheap tickets for tonight, and most likely Saturday if you are contemplating the drive out there.

MerrBear will be a thing.

Ryan is throwing up in the middle of the show.

Classic KSR. haha.

Kentucky vs Stony Brook. 9:40EST

Contrary to the popular belief, the Cats will pull out the victory tonight and move on to play either Indiana or Chattanooga Saturday. I think Kentucky looked loose and ready to go in shoot arounds yesterday and seemed to understand that looking past Stony Brook would prove to be detrimental. So I see the guys coming out to play with energy and will put to rest any doubt that this team won’t make a run this year. I’m Looking for Tyler Ulis and Jamal Murray to both lead the scoring onslaught tonight, while the big guys shuffle in and out putting pressure on Warney being their collective main objectives. Isaiah Briscoe will be his driving to the basket self and cause more problems for the Seawolf big man in his attempt to stay in the game and not get into foul trouble. Kentucky rolls into the second round Saturday with a convincing win against Stony Brook tonight.

Precidtion: Kentucky 84 Stony Brook 68

The KSR Pregame Show will start at 7:00 EST. Let’s all tune in to get pumped up and ready for the game, if your not already.

Then the KSR Postgame Show will be tentitively starting around 1:00am EST, which if you can muster up the energy to stay up for, win or lose you probably should because it’ll surely be epic.

KSR After Show 3/16/16

Today’s Kentucky Sports Radio will be coming to us live from Peoria, Illinois in the Mark Twain Hotel lobby while on their way to the NCAA Tournament! We are now only a day, and quite a few hours (because the game is so late!) away from the Cats taking on everyone’s favorite Cinderella this year, Stony Brook. So let’s listen in and see what the guys are doing on their way to Iowa, and their thoughts on the road ahead for Kentucky.

CALL or TEXT The KSR After Show Hotline @ 775-583-7483 we will post all of your messages sent to the Hotline on the website for everyone to enjoy!

Matt had a tornado dream last night.

They’re not in Kentucky anymore Toto.

CAT employs 1/6th of Peoria’s population.

Kentucky’s NCAA Tournament draw.
Stony Brook has all of a sudden became everyone’s, besides UK fans, favorite Cinderella team this year.  With everyone’s favorite new big man Jameel Warney it seems even our opening round draw is blanketed with those who somewhat know, and those who dont’s upset city picks. Then if we put Cinderella to sleep our second round game will most likely be against Indiana. WHEN the Cats make it past the Hoosiers, then following the chalk picks would face North Carolina. Which is Kentucky’s Wisconsin this year. UNC is the team that has the strengths to take down the Cats this year. The committee can say whatever they want to but we got jobbed again and Calipari called it. I’m on board with the thinking that well you’ve got to play the games anyway so suck it up and get it done, and I think the Cats will. But we got jobbed.

Drew is worried about Indiana.

IU is good this year and playing well. But if Yogi Ferrel doesn’t play well they are done for, and why won’t Yogi be a factor against Kentucky? Tyler Ulis, in a matchup against Insiana Tyler Ulis would shut down Yogi and reek havoc on Tom Creans  strategy and he won’t be able to overcome it. So don’t worry Drew, Tyler Ulis will have a field day against IU.

James Blackmon Jr. is not transferring from Indiana.

Ryan has some lipstick on his glass.

Shamey Shamey Ryan. Amanda is pissed no matter the explaination you can give.

Harold got so wild Sundie he had to take a nerve pill, and his wife is gonna shut down that damned ole bow n arrow’n.

Ryan Lemond, Mark Twain quote interpretations.

Everything has something to do with pizza and nachos. Can somebody get Ryan some food please?

Everyone should read the profile from Fox Sports on Derek Willis.

Here is the article on Fox Sports about Derek Willis.

Vandy lost by 20 to Wichita State and Alabama lost by 20 to Creighton in the NIT.

Way to go SEC! South Carolina did get a win in their first round game in the NIT. The rest of the SEC has seemed to poo poo it. Hopefully we can break that trend tomorrow.

Should Vandy fire Kevin Stallings?

What are the top SEC coaching jobs?

  1. Kentucky
  2. Tennessee
  3. Florida
  4. South Carolina
  5. LSU

I think that’s my top 5, any thoughts?

The SEC hired Mike Tranghese to oversee basketball operations.

Anything that may increase the competition within the SEC I’m on board with it.

Ryan hates consultants.

Matthew Mitchell joins KSR on the phone.

And is dropping San Francisco knowledge, while throwing shade at Ryan. Anyone around Lexington get down to Memorial and support our Lady Cats as well during their tournament run. It could be their year being able to stay at home in the first few rounds.

It’s looking like CJ Conrad will be a main focal point in UK’s offense next year.

Texas A&M standout player Danuel House called out their fans for not showing up like Kentucky fans.

Here is an article on 247Sports about House’s comments to their fans. I love that he’s calling people out.

When Jamal Murray goes for his quiver, Rose starts to shiver…

Leaving that alone…

KSR will be in Des Moines tomorrow live at the NCAA Tournament with another game day show to get us ready to root on the Cats and get them past Stony Brook. Tune in at 10am EST to learn what’s going on and what to watch for tomorrow night.
