Monthly Archives: February 2016
It’s Monday! And it’s leap year day! Whoop whoop!…Just kidding, I’m aware that Monday’s are comparable to colonoscopy’s, they make you quite a bit butt hurt but you gotta have em. At least we have the Monday addition of KSR coming up to discuss the loss against Vanderbilt this weekend, the big week of shows that Kentucky Sports Radio has coming up, and everything in between.
Don’t forget to call or text The SO and KSR After Show Hotline at 775-583-7483 and let’s hear what you have to say on today’s topics! Your voicemails and texts will be posted to the website!
On KSR today 2/29/16:
If we don’t have Derek Willis, then the rise and fall of Kentucky’s 2015-16 year hinges on Alex Poythress.
Kentucky’s point production is significantly lacking with Derek Willis sidelined. Until he returns the Cats are reliant on Briscoe’s jump shots that are not falling to be that third scorer UK needs. Although he keeps trying, and I don’t believe he’s doing so just to put up shots. Briscoe shoots thinking they are or will eventually start going in, but again they are not doing so. To counteract these detrimental factors Kentucky needs Alex Poythress to step up and bring it every night. To win the title I believe this is true once Derek does returns as well. Alex’s O-fer day on Saturday doesn’t give Big Blue Nation much hope, but nieve or not I want to believe in the big fella and trust that he’ll get it together and help our boys in blue make a run as we enter into March.
Matt now does the bow and arrow after…everything.
McDonald’s employees beware the new Oliver Queen wants his egg white mcmuffins!
Kentucky’s seeding improved after a loss because everyone else in the country stinks and lost as well.
15 of the top 25 lost this weekend. As we’ve heard many times already, this year is just bananas.
Curse de Lemond is still at full force and going strong. Ryan predicted before the game that Alex Poythress would be the player of the game…no Ryan…no more.
I’m with Matt, we love you Ryan but you should be banned from pregame shows going forward. That way there’s no chance that you pull a Ryan and even accidentally slip in a sutble prediction without meaning to do so.
A Minnesota Basketball player tweeted a sex tape of the team.
What?…Yes that is a factual statement as much as you want to believe it isn’t. With a Pitno on the coaching staff should we really be surprised? I am still trying to wrap my head around the players logic here though. Sheesh.
Potentially only 3 of the 8 losses UK has are NCAA Tournament teams. Pointed out by “Bill the UofL fan”.
“Baseball! Governors Cup! Calipari!”… 😂 that’s all I have to say here. Get outta here Bill.
The loss at Vandy is not a “bad loss”. The Auburn, Tennessee, and Ohio State losses are, and are the difference in Kentucky being a 1 or 2 seed.
Obviously it’s been a crazy year in College Basketball, I should have stats here and I’ll try to dig them up for you. I’m willing to bet that there are more overall top 25 losses this year than ever before, or at least in a long time. So as it stands now Kentucky is still lingering around a 4 seed and our fate will most likely be dependent on the bracket region that we pull more than actual seeding.
Fuller House warms Shannon the Dudes Cockals…
Donald Trump will be in Louisville tomorrow.
Click here for more information on the Trump visit. Yet as Uncle Matt told you this event will be held during rush hour times in Louisville and with a home Louisville Basketball game shortly there after.
“Charles with the Republican Party” put the smack down on Matt.
He had no good information to help you caucus, but he did manage to blow his lid and call Matt a Democrat.
Cross your fingers for The Donald on KSR tomorrow.
All of us besides maybe Matt want to hear Kentucky Joe’s Trump intro playing and Ryan Lemond asking Donald Trump a question tomorrow.
Kentucky vs Florida|Tuesday March 1st 7:00pm EST| Gainesville FL.
The Swamp down in Gainesville has always been a tough environment to go into. With Willis most likely still on the mends, I look for this one to be another road game that the Cats have some struggles pulling out. While I think it’ll be a close one, I believe they will do just that and find a way to win and get out of The Swamp unscathed.
Prediction: UK 75 Florida 70

So…that just happened, Jamal Murray scored 33 Points which I did foresee and was another rebound away from a double double. Although unfortunately the buck stops there. Tyler Ulis was 5-20 from the field, 0-7 from three point range, and it was apparent from the start that this would not be his day at Memorial Gymnasium against a hungry Vanderbilt team. Kentucky’s frontcourt was once again non existent, other than a solid game from Marcus Lee. While we all love him Alex Poythress has always been a bit off and on from game to game throughout his career in Lexington. Today he played 16 minutes and only produced 3 rebounds, 1 block, 1 turnover, and 5 fouls. He didn’t take a shot. Even the surging Isaac Humphries couldn’t get it together today for the Cats. Only 4 Wildcats of the 9 that logged over 8 minutes in the game scored a single point, and the struggling Ulis was the second highest scorer behind Murray’s 33 with 12 points.
It has become irritably obvious that without Derek Willis, this team needs someone else to step up and fill that void and it just isn’t happening. While the fight in this team has grown immensely to even give themselves a chance towards the end of the game. If another player can’t rise to the challenge in Willis’ absence and in the rare game that Tyler Ulis is missing WIDE open layups then the struggles for Kentucky will continue against tournament worthy teams. Yet despite the unfortunate play of the Wildcats tonight I believe they are still a dangerous team in the tournaments. This was only Tyler Ulis’ second game of the year that he wasn’t at his best, Ohio State being the other, and hopefully Derek Willis will return soon. So I don’t look for the same struggles that the Cats had in Nashville to continue going forward.
Kentucky falls to second in the SEC at 21-9 and has to now travel to The Swamp at Florida Tuesday in hopes of road redemption.
Prediction: UK 83 Vandy 69
Actual Outcome: UK 62 Vandy 74
As an admitted lifelong Kentucky Wildcats fan, what comes with being a part of Big Blue Nation amoung having many other fanatical attributes. Is Monday through Friday 10:00am till 12:00pm, headphones in and being submerged into the sometimes off the wall, interesting, and while facts are optional there is still a lot of spirited and informative thoughts during a daily Kentucky Sports Radio experience. While “sports radio” is in the title, anyone who regularly listens knows that KSR is not your run a the mill sports radio show. Which is refreshing, with topics from University of Louisville’s never ending scandals, to having political debates, to having the best candy bar and cereal tournaments live on the air, and of course still discussing all things Kentucky. With hundreds of thousands within and outside of Kentucky listening everyday I’m sure I’m not the only one who wants and needs more than two hours a day of all these things that KSR covers so well on a daily basis. So many of our favorite tv shows have “after shows” and I would like to consider this section of the blog the KSR After Show where BBN can continue the conversation and get more of our thoughts out there. If you couldn’t get on the show or just where not able to, let the KSR After Show be the place that you always can. So let’s get to it! Post your comments below after the article and we’ll discuss what on all of our minds today.
On today’s KSR show 2/26/16:
- It’s another somewhat of a let down ask anything Friday.
It’s somewhat hard to criticize the callers Ask Anything Friday questions because at the moment I can’t think of any tittlating questions myself, but this opportunity could be and in the past has been much better than the questions that where asked today. Perin Johnson belittling a Louisville fan at the Kentucky Derby seemed to be the best Ask Anything Friday story. Asking Matt and Ryan if Coach Cal has ever been mad at them was good. Although while interesting the answers where not to scandalous. We as fans need to pay more attention and be prepared for the next Ask Anything Friday.
- Shannon the Dude is watching the new Full House Netflix tv series at 6am in the morning.
Growing up I wasn’t a huge Full House fan but I did watch on occasion and because of Shannon the Dudes excitement I may have to check out the new Full House Tv Series on Netflix and see what all the hoopla is about. Will you watch or attempt to watch? Or not even the slightest bit interested?
- Grayson Allen is a fart sniffer who looks like coach K and has been induced into the hateable players of Duke basketball hall of fame. By way of doing said fart sniffing, not getting technical fouls called on him for tripping opponents, all while being a good player.
Matt mentioned Bobby Hurley Cherokee Parks, Christian Laettner, Chris Collins, Wojo, and J.J. Redick as the most hated Duke players, what do you think?
- What team do you NOT want to see Kentucky play in the NCAA Tournament?
Here I tend to agree with Matt that North Carolina with the emergence of Bryce Johnson is most likely to be our Wisconsin of 2016. Yet I also threw out the notion that possibly Michigan State could be a thorn in Kentucky’s side come March as well. They play tough hard nosed Tom Izzo basketball and Denzel Valentine who has recently thrown his name in the player of the year conversations, while not a true point guard controls the game and plays at a perfect pace that no one else can other than Tyler Ulis of course. Any Tom Izzo coached team getting hot in February worries me a little.
- Huffington Post Weird Food Combinations.
Check out the full list of Huffington Post Weird but Delicious Food Combinations here.
Everyone outside of my small town Kentucky family circle thinks that my eating cottage cheese in my brown (pinto) beans is disgusting. I promise it’s super good. What are your favorite weird food combinations?
- What actors play the Louisville staff in a movie about the sex scandal?
Matt believes Willam Difoe should play Rick Pitno, which is a good call. I think if he put on a few pounds Kyle Chandler the coach from Friday Night Lights could easily play Tom Jurich. I can possibly invision Alec Baldwin taking on the Jurich roll as well. What are your thoughts?
- Per Scoop Lemond trusted source Matthew Mitchell will not leave Kentucky for the Tennessee Women’s Basketball Head Coaching job.
- Kentucky vs Vanderbilt Game
The game is Saturday 2/27/16 at 4:00pm EST on CBS at Vandy in Nashville, TN.
The way the Cats have been rolling even with the struggles on the road, I believe we could potentially steam roll Vanderbilt. Tyler Ulis and Jamal Murray will continue to stay hot, Derek Willis is most likely out but Alex Poythress is in and I look for him to have a major impact in this game. Calipari used him sparingly in the last game, Alex’s first game back and he was highly effective in the role. Look for Tyler Ulis to produce another double double and Murray to score close to 30 points like he has been in part from the lack of points due to the injury to Willis, but mostly because he’s a badass. Cats roll and keep up the momentum they’ve been gaining.
Prediction: UK 83 Vandy 69
What are all of your thoughts on the game? Predictions?
